Privacy is very important in today's world. BookDefy will never betray your trust.

Why should you trust BookDefy?

Trust on the Internet is something that does not exist anymore. For BookDefy to be successful, we have to trust you, you have to trust us, and you and your peers, professors and local businesses must trust each other. For starters, BookDefy makes exchanging textbooks safe by maintaining privacy and accountability.

Our privacy policy is simple. We don't share your information with anyone. We also go a step further.

Unlike other websites that poke and pry into every aspect of your life, hoping to be able to sell your personal preferences and other snippets of your personality as "marketing data", we only ask you for a few, small pieces of information about yourself. Therefore, if we don't have information about you, we can't do anything with it - regardless.

Why do we & should you care about your privacy?

Security

Your security is just as important. One of the least-private pieces of information you have is your University's e-mail address. We need this to make sure you are a college student. We also need this to ensure that if something were to happen, we know who you are - and who you are meeting on an exchange. Each studnet at a University only has 1 e-mail address (normally), and that prevents people who are not college students from registering on this site. It also means that, if it were to arise, your college can track anything they need to.

Trust

We will never betray your trust, unless we ethically need to do so. This situation arises in the following circumstance

  • A valid, legitimate and reasonable court order
  • A member makes a reasonable complaint about you
  • We feel that there is an issue concerning your - or another member's safety

That's it. Outside these rare instances, we will not voluntarily disclose anything about you, not even that you are a member of our site!

We take pride in the fact that our website is extremely private and protects your information. If you ever feel that we have breached your privacy, or one of our advertisers, affiliates or partners has, contact us at privacy@BookDefy.com, and we will rectify this immediately. If you think that we can do something else, have any concerns, send us suggestions, and we will take action. Again, we want your informaiton to stay your information, we want to be a solution, and not part of the problem!
