BookDefy uses disrputive technology to shrink the college textbook marketplace. BookDefy's software creates a unique, private and safe system that allows college students to swap their used textbooks with their classmates. Students get a fair price on their used textbooks, they meet in a public location, and most importantly, they save substantially.
What is BookDefy?
About BookDefy
BookDefy was created by our Founder, Derek Haake. Derek has 8 years of telecommunications and web-application design and development experience. Additionally, Derek has owned or managed three different companies, including two companies that were publicly traded. Derek started his college career at Texas A&M, however, he left school after the Fall 1999 semester. Derek is currently working on completing his masters degree, and has his BA from the University of Texas at Arlington, and his JD from the University of Akron School of Law.
"I began working on the concept of BookDefy in 2006, because I was fed up with high textbook prices. After 5 years, BookDefy is finally in a place where I believe it will help students exchange their textbooks.
BookDefy is different - I created the site to focus on individual privacy, and facilitating safe, secure textbook exchanges. I think BookDefy is a solution to the bookstore monopoly and the high price of textbooks, but only if we, as students, all work together.
BookDefy only works if we get students, businesses and professors involved. As a student you’re probably very familiar with the textbook buyback scam. You and your fellow students could save money and still make more money on their textbooks than the bookstores (who often make 300 and 400% profits on used textbooks) offer. Students can – through BookDefy – take matters into their own hands.
I thank you for your time, and I hope that you enjoy, and find BookDefy useful!"
